Robert McKinney with daughters Tania Elise, Kerri Robin and wife
Edith. This photo was taken at
Edith's sister and brother's-in-law horse farm in Mt. Pleasant. I
traded Ken and Wanda Schindley
my beautiful black quarter horse "Velvet" for a computer
system. This allowed me to still see the horse when visiting.
I got rid of all my horses after a child was kicked. My stepson Eddie
Crawford was keeping his wife's
brother's son Chris for the summer and they were visiting our place
in the country. Chris was afraid of the
horses and would not pet them when they would hang their head over
the fence like the other kids would.
Then he came into the house and told Edith: "Granmaw, I'm not
afraid of the horses any more". The
kids were playing in the pasture where the horses were and
climbing a tree. The horses were jumping,
rearing, kicking and playing nearby. Chris started laughing and
climbed down and ran in amongst them.
Then Velvet cow-kicked Chris in the head. It was awful seeing that
child with blood running from his ears.
We made a record speed trip to the hospital emergency room. They sent
him on to the Tyler hospital
because the brain was exposed.
I recently baby sat his 4-year old daughter. It was good to see that
tall good looking healthy young man after so
many years had passed. Over six foot tall and over 200 lbs. The only
thing wrong is he has a horse shoe
shaped scar on his head now when he has a military style hair cut.
