BACK
Barb and I on Palm Island in the West Indies Jan. 1991. You can
see our mode of transportation in background. As it says in the
caption, we sailed all the carribean islands north to south.
This island is in an area called the grenadines between the bigger
island of St Vincents and Grenada. Everyone should be familiar
with Grenada for we invaded that island in 80's to wrestle it from
Cuban domminence. We had local natives give us tour of Island
(Grenada) and there were still signs of war all over. Story has it
our troops got lost and had to use tourists maps to find their
way around. Saw bldg where Russian KGB agents stayed and also where
thousands of Grenadians leaped to their death in fear. On the good
side they furnish most of the worlds spices. Their water supply
is captured from rain water in a very large concrete flu coming off
the mountains which is all volcanic. Volcanoes are the down
side of these Island paradise's. Palm Island is owned by
coconut Johnny which has a 99 year lease on the island. His
story is another in its own when he sailed the Pacific in the only
thing he could find at the end of WW2 to pick up his love in Australia.
It was a small sailboat he found in Panama. I will tell you the
whole story later with pic of he and I. He wrote a book on his experience.
Very good reading, can't put it down reading.
Anyway now on Palm Island he lives on one side of the Island and she on the other. The only road on the island is(get this) Hwy 90. I felt right at home. By the way they also made a movie. I could ramble forever about my experience in islands, so I will save it for another day. Eddie
