MCKINNEY (1776-1821)
Son of Daniel
MCKINNEY (Donald MCINNISH, Jr.) & Sarah WEATHERS, he
was born 18 Feb 1776 in Sussex Co., VA and died 22 Oct 1821 in Roane
Co., TN. Listed as head of household in the 1790 census at
Rockingham, North Carolina. The census listed 2 white males over 60
years, 1 white male under 60 years, 5 white females and 1 slave. His
father, Daniel, was probably one of the over-60 males.
Married to
Nancy HORN b. ca 1781/1790 Edgecombe Co., NC d. 22 Mar 1833 Roane
Co., TN (dau. of Abisha HORN & Ann RICKS). Between 1790 and 1800,
moved to Roane County, TN and settled on a point known as Indian
Bottom, across the Clinch River from the present-day Oak Ridge K-25
Plant. Buried in McKinney Cemetery (AEC No. 13A) in Roane Co., TN on
the Indian Bottom farm, now the Boeing property. Purchased 250 acres
known as "Indian Bottoms" for $550 from Jeremiah MCCLAIN on
the south side of the Clinch River on 2 Apr 1802. On 9 Feb 1821 John
paid $700 to John HILL for 200A south of the Clinch River, below the
mouth of the 1st branch above the mouth of Gap Creek, alias Caney
Creek. This land had previously belonged to Stockley DONELSON
(original grant), who sold it to Charles MCCLUNG, who sold it to
Julius HACKER, who sold it to John HILL. John's sons Ananais and
James sold this property to Brashear Roberts on 20 Dec 1832.
John was listed
in the 1802 Militia of Roane Co., TN with Captain Hugh FRANCIS'
Company.[4 John MACKINEY signed a petition in 1801 to form Roane Co.,
TN.
John's wife
Nancy rode over the mountains on an old gray horse, carrying their
few household goods wrapped in a homespun sheet.

Basheba possibly married a MAPLES before she married Edmund.

in Roane County, TN on the south side of the Clinch River. Elisha
lived on the north side of the Clinch River. He was illiterate.

salvation"[6] and who tried to cheat Elisha MCKINNEY's
heirs out of their inheritance. George was the son of James Jones and
Nancy Butler Jones.

will dated 17 Jul 1821 probated 22 Oct 1821 was witnessed by Basil
BRASHEAR and Carter BARNET. Brashear Roberts of Sugar Grove Valley
and William CROWDER were executors. John left the following:
To wife Nancy,
the plantation on which she now lives, a Negro boy named Jessy(?) and
a Negro woman named Kizo (On 22 Mar 1833 the heirs of John sold to
Tandy SENTER for $800 three Negroes, Bowman, a man about 35 years,
Kizza his wife, about 42 years, and a boy child Columbus, aged 2
years.)Roane Co., TN Deed Book F1, pg 792
To his two
eldest sons James & Ananais, the HACKER Plantation, to be
divided evenly and to James a Negro boy named Jerry (Terry?) and to
Ananais a Negro boy named Isa__. (Ananais and James sold this
property to Brashear Roberts for $455 on 20 Dec 1832.
To his 3rd &
4th sons, Jesse and Elisha, the Poplar Creek Plantation to be
divided evenly and to Jesse the Negro boy named Nelson and to Elisha
the next child born to the woman Kizo. If Kizo bore no more children,
Elisha was to receive $300 from the remainder of the estate.
To his four
