The McKinney family info that Robert McKinney is kindly posting for me on McKinneyGenWeb is from a Family Tree Maker file, which also includes some data on ancestors of Sarah Weathers and on my Lann family.  If you would like to have this file or a GEDCOM file from it, contact me at c_nmorri@bellsouth.net.

In view of the genealogy misinformation that one can find on the web, I have tried to document my data.  If you find errors or questionable info in it, please contact me.
The best source I've found about genealogy of our McKinney family is the book A McKinney Family History, Revised Edition (1988), by Mildred McKinney Gee.  There's a copy in the genealogy room of the library in Aberdeen, MS (Monroe Co.).  I don't know what other libraries have copies.  A very good source about the family in VA is a book edited by G. R. B. Richards, Register of Albemarle Parish, Surry and Sussex Counties, 1739-1778.  I have found that in several libraries.  The ancestry of Sarah Weathers' mother, Mary Rives, has been traced to Robert Ryves (ca. 1490 - 11 Feb 1551) of England (James Rives Childs, Reliques of the Rives &ldots; (1929)).  Mr. Childs argues convincingly that the Rives family must have come to England from France.
I'm not aware of any evidence that Donald McInnish, Sr., ever used either of the names "Daniel" or "McKinney."
The Mary who married Donald McInnish, Sr., may have been a Willie, as some suggest, but I have seen no documentation of that.  Nor have I seen documentation that Donald McInnish came from Islay.  More research is needed.
It is unlikely that Daniel McKinney received a land grant in MS Territory for his Revolutionary service, as was stated in a county history article.  He did receive a NC bounty land warrant, possibly for land in TN, which he probably sold.
That Daniel McKinney died before 23 Feb 1835 is attested by his will being proved on that date (Monroe Co., MS, Probate Court Minutes 1, p. 315).

The web is not the only place to get misinformation about genealogy.
Donna Crawford Morgan's "McKinney Family" in A History of Monroe
County is another.  Her statement that all the children of my James
McKinney were born in Monroe Co. is almost certainly incorrect.  Three
census records for son Josiah indicate that he was born in TN, as do 2
records for son John.  Daughter Arvazena seems to have been born in NC
(2 census records).  That article also shows the marriage date for
Sarah McKinney (to Richard Horn) as her birth date, and shows the
birth date of her sister Nancy as 1814.  Since that article is my only
source for Madison as the middle name of my James McKinney, I decided
to relegate that to a note.

Your site is the only place where I've seen a suggestion that the Mary
who married Donald McInnish was a WILLIS.  (Willie is another
matter.)  I'm curious as to whence that came.
