The Introduction sets forth the steps for the earliest known people of this Mckinney line and the following chapters tell of descending generations. Major emphasis is on the line of Donald McInnish whose descendants spelled their name McKinney, beginning with son Daniel and continuing through William, William Henry, James, Samuel Jefferson and Ezra Festus McKinney.Because there is no present reason to doubt traditional statements that these Mckinneys were of Scottish origins, variant related Scottish spellings are tabulated. The index is of individuals named McKinney, MacInnish, and McKinnish and includes other families by surname only. Generational genealogy is located at the end of each chapter.
Intended to be an informal history for my children and grandchildren, the account grew into a compilation of family records and historical research, sometimes accompanied by the author's summations and opnions. Getting to know my ancestors has resulted in meeting kinspeople far and near and has been pleasantly rewarding.
While society has usually reserved honor for those in positions of prominence. I believe that the Mckinney families, who worked mainly in lesser known places, have exerted an influence for good in their area of service. This is our history as I found it and recorded it, with the hope that present and future Mckinney descendants may become more aware of their history.
At the time of the second printing some family photographs were not readily available and, therefore, the number included is less. Bridges Bible records have been added. The Foreward is slightly varied. Other than those minor revisions, the content of the book is the same as the original.
